Bhutan and its Culture

difference between Bhutan and the rest of the world

Bhutan holds many surprises. This is a country where the rice is red and where chillies aren’t just a seasoning but the main dish. It’s also a deeply Buddhist land, where monks check their smartphones after performing a divination, and where giant protective penises are painted beside the entrance to many houses

‘Bhutan had an uninterrupted history as a Buddhist country. The photos were of a mountainous country with colourful prayer flags strung through skies and extraordinary clifftop monasteries with golden roofs. Brochures showed the red robes of monks and nuns set against lush green paddy fields and smiling. Always there was smiling. So this was Bhutan

The moment you enter Bhutan, you notice that there are no traffic lights. It is almost like you’ve stepped into a Shangri-La or a vortex of time 200 years ago. Those kinds of experiences are very much of the countryside of Bhutan, where people are truly happy in the sense of not creating and wanting more

A salient feature of Bhutanese food is its simplicity, naturalness and freshness. Few artificial ingredients are used in the food which is prepared and eaten fresh. One of the most distinguishing features of Bhutanese food is its hotness brought about by ubiquitous chilli.
